Using the Sub Pages plugin

Sub Pages example

If you have a lot of pages to display, using levels of pages and sub-pages can help make them easier to navigate.

After activating the excellent Sub Pages plugin, you can:

  • add a Sub Pages widget to your sidebar to display links to sub pages of the current page in your sidebar
  • add the [SUB-PAGES] shortcode to any page or post to display a bulleted list of all sub pages of the current page

There are a few settings that control how this plugin behaves. The only way to change the settings is to add the widget to the sidebar, change the settings and save them. These settings affect the way the shortcode works as well, so even if you only want to use the shortcode, you need to add the sidebar widget, make the changes to settings, save the changes and the delete the widget (the settings will be preserved).

Use Root: You can decide from which level the sub pages are displayed. The choice you have is from the root or from the current page. To show the sub pages from the root check the Use Root checkbox. To use the current page uncheck this option.

Note: If Use Root is checked all other options will be ignored.

First level only: You can decide to all levels of sub pages, or only the first level of sub pages from the current page.

Add Parent Page: You can add a link to the Parent Page to the Sub Pages list. If this option is used the options Parent Icon and Position are evaluated.

Parent Icon: You can set what should be displayed when the parent page is added to the list. If you want to add an image you need the image tag e.g.

Position: You can select where the parent page should be added to the beginning of the list or at the end.
